Michael Kammers is a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalrist and composer. Michael Kammers has been a creative force in the Brooklyn underground music scene since his arrival there in 2001, where he attended and graduated from the New School University’s Jazz and Contemporary Music program having studied with George Garzone, Reggie Workman, Bobby Sanabria and Jane Ira-Bloom.
Active as a leader and a sideman in many contexts, his wide ranging musical abilities and interests are expressed in each musical performance, as well as in his extensive resume – recent highlights include having performed with acts as diverse as: drummer composer Bobby Previte, Dub outfit The Easy Star All Stars, film icon Melvin Van Peebles, pop star Aloe Blacc and Daptone favorites Sharon Jones + the Dap-kings and Antibalas.
Always active as a leader and composer, Kammers is signed to Ropeadope records and has lead the 15 piece space funk big band The MK Groove Orchestra going on 15 years. The band performs regularly in NYC and MK’s adventurous, intricate music is available on 7 live and studio albums and has been featured in film and TV in Japan.
